February 2012....so far

So far so good.  We've had a hard time with "Cedar Fever" ( a bad allergy known in the Austin area), but we're all on the mend.  Except, friday night we went to Salt Lick (seriously good BBQ), and Charlie was complaining about about his neck hurting.  I felt his neck and his glands were swollen on his left side.  His glands felt like a string of pearls.  I've never had swollen glands like that and it scared me.  Saturday he woke up and said he felt ok and he had no signs of a cold so we decided to go to Chuck E. Cheese.  Ever since Chase had a B-day party there last year Charlie has wanted to go back.  Well, there was one that was not too far away from our apartment and it was rainy and cold on Saturday.  Charlie was ecstatic!  We only spent $10 total  (in coins) and I tried not to worry too much about germs.  We went right when it opened, so there were less than 10 kids there the whole time.  (By Saturday night Charlie had a fever...ugh!  Sunday he stayed home from church and again had a fever.  Since we were leaving on Wednesday for my parents house I opted to take him to a doctor to make sure he didn't have an infection (sinus/ear) or strep throat (he complained Sunday night that his throat hurt).  The doctor was great and tested him for Strep (negative), and she said he had tonsilitis and gave us an antibiotic because his ears looked like they could turn into an infection because of the pressure from his glands.  By Tuesday morning he was back to his normal Charlie self.

Charlie with Bob the Builder

A favorite for both the boys

We had this YUMMY pizza at Rosale's Pizza on 6th Street.

Those great laundry baskets!
Ben looks so much like Dave here!

We're getting some good use out of those monkey hats!

So I made this awesome oatmeal this past week. Enjoy!
2-3 servings (this will usually feed me and the boys)
1 cup old fashioned oats
1 1/3-1 1/2 cup water
Microwave for 5 minutes on 50% power
take out and mix in 2 tsp brown sugar (I use dark) – add more water if it’s too thick, but it should be perfect
Give it a stir
Wash up some blackberries (10ish) toss those in and mash them up a little as you stir them in
Cut up a banana (Cut lenthwise twice to have four long skinny sections then slice up into 1/4 – 1/2 inch slices
Stir in bananas
Now open up some French Vanilla or vanilla yogurt. (If you have Brown Cow that is my favorite, but Stoneyfields will do too-both organic)
Get your bowl, put in 1/4 cup vanilla or however much you want and put 1/2 cup oatmeal on top or on the side of the yogurt.
NOW, get oatmeal on your spoon and smother it in the yogurt...EAT IT! Amazing, right?
Benny and I gobbled it up! Can’t wait for breakfast tomorrow!
